Up for grabs is this antique "Colonial Edition" of "Afterwards And Other Stories" by the great Ian Maclaren. Printed in 1898 by Hodder & Stoughton (London), it features 14 various stories of yesteryear printed on thick, high-quality paper.

As you can see from the photos below, this book is in great condition, with few relatively minor flaws. While the cover of fine blue cloth or mylar has seen some surface wear, and has a big library sticker on the front, edge wear is quite minimal, with the only fraying being on the corners and a bit on the bottom. While there is some splitting or wear along the edge of the spine (adjoining back), there is not much of the usual wear top and bottom - and of course holds the covers and pages together perfectly. In fact, there is not even any separation between it and the pages when looking down on the book. Also, the gold-leaf titling is mostly intact (though there is also the remnants of a small sticker).

All 475 pages are not only intact, but most are in a truly excellent condition. There are no rips, stains, scribbles, or mildew-spots, and there has been basically no yellowing in all this time. The only creases are a few tiny turned corners, and the only defacements are stickers inside the covers and (usually faint) library stamps up to the first page of the text, and at the end of most chapters. The only other flaw is that the paper inside the back cover has split, revealing the gauze of the binding just a tad (this has been fixed inside the front by thick brown tape); but there are no gaps between pages, and I can assure you this book feels as sturdy as they come, and will definitely see at least another century or two without worry.

This book is a must for admirers of Ian Maclaren's works, collectors of fine antique books, and lovers of classic literature in general. This item is going out cheap, so hurry up and grab it before someone else beats you to it!
