Ambidextrous Bodyworks
Types of Massage
Remedial, sport or
relaxation… that is the question?
Remedial (Therapeutic)
Massage
Sitting in an office chair working at a computer
all day can be detrimental to the shoulder and neck muscles, not to mention the
lower back region. Remaining in a static position causes muscles to fatigue and
tense up which leads to muscular stiffness, headaches and backache; as well as
referred symptoms in arms and hands such as tingling, numbness or a feeling of
tiredness or heaviness.
Musicians could show the same symptoms from hours
of practice and performing, massage can aid in the relief and ongoing
maintenance of worked muscles.
Sports Massage
Whether you are a recreational sports person or a
serious athlete, your muscles will suffer side effects from exercise at one time
or another. The accumulation of lactic acid and subsequent associated muscle
stiffness and fatigue is further exacerbated when you spend most of the day at a
desk.
Relaxation Massage
We all have stress in our lives relating to work, family, environment and society. Mental tensions, frustration and insecurity are among the most damaging. Affected by stress, the heart works harder, muscles tense up, breathing can become rapid and shallow – all body processes are degraded. Work stress is the most common complaint amongst workers.
Massage for Musicians
Massage can be healing and inspirations to a
musician’s well-being. When a musician continues to play a certain instrument
over and over with repeated action, muscles begin to get tight and tension
builds up. This can cause problems with structural systems. Muscle tension and
spasms cause a decrease of blood and nutrient flow to the muscle, causing lactic
acid build up with decreasing muscle tone. A person playing keys may need their
forearms, fingers, neck and shoulders stretched, massage helps in many ways. It
promote relaxation, relieves pain and provides gentle stretching of soft tissue.
Several types of massage are available, deep tissue, trigger-point to relaxation.
