EYEFEAR News Archive A R C H I V E

Friday 9th January, 2009

Hi everyone

We have a couple of important announcements:

First off, we'd like to welcome the newest member of EYEFEAR - bassist Evan Harris, whom you might know from playing in bands such as Black Majesty and Endel Rivers' Hardbite. We're really excited to have Evan in the band, and here is what he has to say about joining our outfit:

I have long been an admirer of EYEFEAR and of their class and commitment, and simply couldn't pass up the rare opportunity to join when it arose. Hopefully there are many years of great live shows and mindblowing albums ahead of us all. Evan Harris.

Also, we are having our album launch for "The Unseen" in a month, at one of our favourite places, The Gershwin Room at The Espy. It will be on Saturday 7th February, so don't miss what promises to be a great night, and of course seeing our new bass player in action! More info in the poster below. Hope to catch you down there.

Dear fans

We have some sad news: Rob, our bass player for many years, has decided to leave the band. While we are saddened by the news, we rejoice in the many wonderful years he has spent with us, and of course wish him all the best. Here is a letter from Rob explaining his decision:

"It is with great regret that I let everyone know that I am leaving EYEFEAR due to personal reasons. I have been with EYEFEAR so long now that it's not like leaving a band, it’s more like leaving a family. My brothers who hit the stage with me when we play and all our cousins, being all the fans that have supported us and said such kind words about us, all the way to our parents in Management at Intromental. It has been very hard on me coming to this decision and I'd like to thank my wife and kids who have especially helped me through this. I wish the boys all the best in the future and can’t wait to see the boys live, although I will be strongly feeling as though I am on the wrong side of the stage.

Rob"

We will miss Rob, but obviously we have to move on, which of course involves looking for a new bassist. Any interested parties should contact us for an audition.

Hey there

Just a quick update on the progress of our next album. All drums are now finished, and we are fast approaching the end of recording at Sammy's studio. Once finished, the tracks will be mixed and mastered at Jailhouse Studios by Tommy Hansen (www.jailhouse.dk). There are 8 tracks on the new CD, and we have a couple of song titles decided on, those being "Always Reasons" and "Bridge to the Passed" (which is Pt 5 to "While The World Sleeps").  More news very soon! Take care.

Greetings friends!

We are currently writing and recording our next album, which we can now reveal will be mixed by Tommy Hansen (Jailhouse Studios, Denmark), who has also worked on albums by the likes of Helloween, Pagans Mind, Beyond Twilight, Circus Maximus, and Jorn. The album will be recorded in Sammy's studio right here in Melbourne.

Hi all!

We've got a new forum up, so check it out at:

http://www.ultimatemetal.com/forum/eyefear-480/

Also, we are currently finishing off writing new songs for our next album, and will begin recording late March/early April.  We will be unveiling the title, tracklisting, who will be mixing, doing the cover artwork, and release dates in the next few weeks.

Lastly, we apologise for the constant spamming of our guestbook, but wish to assure those who have complained about it that this is something totally out of our control (blame those who launch their spambots!)! Our webmaster cleans out the junk regularly, but with 40 or more fake entries per day, coming in at varied times, he can never be totally on top of it. Rest assured that, as it says at the top of the guestbook page, the spam will be cleared away from your entries, so feel free to post. For those just wanting to look at the real entries, it follows that all you have to do is scroll down below all the junk, and below those all entries will be from fans, not spambots.

Hey everyone

First off, we have to say THANKS for the huge show of support we got from fans old and new at the Blind Guardian concerts last weekend! It was certainly a great experience, and we've already heard from a bunch of new followers since the event, so it's smiles all round. We're sure our next international support slot with Everygrey on their "Darkness Across Australia" tour will be just as much fun. Dates are Friday 11th May (The Gaelic Club, Sydney) and Saturday 12th May (The HiFi Bar; Melbourne).

The week before the Everygrey gigs we'll actually be playing in San Francisco at the first annual "Bay Area Rock Fest" with a bunch of great international acts. For those of you who heard about this on our interview on "Screaming Symphony" (3PBS-FM), the bill has changed somewhat since then (as does happen!), so Angra are no longer headlining, but other great bands have been added. May is certainly going to be a busy month, so we hope to catch you at some of these gigs!

Greetings!

We'd like to send a big THANKS! to all those who attended our gig with Lord in Sydney last weekend! The place was packed out with 220 crazy Sydneysiders who gave us as much of a show as we gave them... talk about "audience participation"! We had such a great night, and we'd really like to thank all involved, most especially the crowd for giving us such a HUGE welcome on our second trip up north. We already can't wait to get back up there!

Now, we also have some news, being the track listing for the new album. The song titles (in order) for "A World Full Of Grey" are:

Searching For Forgiveness

A World Full Of Grey

Changes

Lost Within

While The World Sleeps

(Part 3)  Moments

(Part 4) The Eyes Tell No Lies

Whispers Of The Soul

Haunted Memories

Breathe Again

Secondly, we will begin mixing on the 28th August at Los Angered Studios with Andy La Rocque again. The album is already sounding awesome (if we may say so ourselves), so we can't wait till Andy's done with it!

Hope to have some more news for you soon. Take care!

It will be great to play up north again, so we can't wait (note that we're playing at the same place exactly one year since last time!). Hope to catch you there!

Greetings everyone,

Apologies for not posting any news etc on our web site, our forum, or even on MySpace. There is a reason of course. We are very close to completing our new CD, "A World Full Of Grey". All our energies and time have been dedicated to this CD, and we are very confident it will turn a lot of heads.

In the next couple of weeks we will be unleashing a heap of news around the world which will include the full track listing, some very special guest musicians (and a whole heap of other news relating the new CD), a release date for our Asian version of "9 Elements Of Inner Vision" (which contains an exclusive bonus track), and of course some info on gigs we are currently booking which will include SYDNEY.

Hopefully we will be able to give you a quick look at the new cover art work which is also completed. It was once again done by the ever brilliant Mattias Norén (Evergrey, Kamelot, Pyramaze, just to name a few). That will depend on management and record labels though.

Lastly, we'd really like to thank everyone for their e-mails that have been really supportive. THE WAIT IS NEARLY OVER!!!!!!!

Sunday 19th February, 2006

EYEFEAR would like to pay homage to a great supporter of the Melbourne metal scene who passed away recently: Jeff Rule. He worked tirelessly to promote and encourage Melbourne's young bands, organised many great gigs, and was a metal evangelist on public radio for 15 years. Most would remember him as the host of the diverse and often hilarious radio show "The Red Stink Of Metal", which used to be on before "Screaming Symphony" on 3PBS-FM. Even through the last few months of his failing health he still gave what he could, and still went out to support local bands. In fact, the last gig we played at The Espy was one of the last he ever went to. He died on his birthday, the 6th of February, at the age of 51. He will be greatly missed!!

Guess what?!

Con just got his dream guitar endorsement from Caparison Guitars! Ever since he picked up Andy La Rocque's in Sweden and had a play, he's been wanting his own. Now, thanks to bmusic in Australia, he has his own mega-cool Caparison "Horus"! For those not familiar with the brand, Caparison make top quality stock and custom guitars, with many European metal acts as their eager buyers. They are steadily gaining a great reputation and cult following, and when you pick one up you know why! While previously impossible to get here in Australia, these wonderful axes are now available from the better instrument stores (contact bmusic for more info). Once again, many thanks to Shane and all at bmusic.

Monday 5th September, 2005

Hiya!

We'd like to thank everybody who rocked up nice and early for the Screaming Symphony Benefit gig on Saturday night, and for the awesome support you gave us. For those who missed us, well, we hinted pretty strongly that we would be on first (this being so the night alternated between Prog and Power/Melodic Metal, and so that Voyager - who came all the way from Western Australia - got the attention of a full house). As it was, most of you took the call to get there early seriously, so we had most of the night's patronage there within a couple of songs.

We once again played new songs "Breathe Again" and "A World Full Of Grey" (the title track of our forthcoming album), as well as debuted "Whispers Of The Soul". Judging from the reaction, people are going to like the heavier approach this next album is taking.

Once again, many thanks to all who made it, and much respect to Screaming Symphony for all the work they do in promoting local (and international) metal. If you'd like to see some pics of the night, check back later this week.

PS: For those who read the interview in BEAT, no Con has not handed over his guitar to Danny and taken over singing duties! One would assume the guy meant "lead guitarist".

Don't forget, doors open 7pm and we can't stress enough this is not a gig you want to turn up unfashionably late for! Let's just say the poster is not representative of the order of lineup whatsoever, and that if you don't want to miss out, you better be there for the first band at 7.30!

Greetings!

We'd like to send out a big THANKS to all who made it to our CD Launch last Friday night! We had a great time and, from the looks of it, so did you! We debuted one of our new songs, "Breathe Again" , and ended the night with Gio (Black Majesty), Lidia (Enter Twilight), and Jimmy (WithoutEnd; ex-EYEFEAR) joining Danny on "Beyond The Twilight". Luckily we took quite a few copies of the album along to sell, as we had many people there hanging to finally get the CD, since the popular shops in Melbourne keep selling out of it. We also started selling t-shirts there, so more on the availability of those in the next update.

Hey all

We just found out today that we (or at least Con) will be appearing on 3JJJ's metal show "Full Metal Racket" this week! So tune in Tuesday night (being Triple J it's broadcast nation-wide, with web access for those overseas) on 107.5 FM between 11pm-1am. (For most of you reading this, that means TONIGHT!).

We will also be doing an interview on "Screaming Symphony" next Tuesday night (1st Feb) as a lead-up to our CD launch at the Espy the following Friday (4th). You can catch this between 10pm-12am on 106.7 FM (3PBS).

Take care!

It's confirmed!

Our CD launch for  is on at The Espy (Esplanade Hotel, St. Kilda) on Friday 4th February 2005, with supports Without End and Enter Twilight. This promises to be a great night, and being the weekend after the Big Day Out will be easy enough to remember (though we'll be reminding you closer to the date!).

Regarding the CDs: Metal Mayhem sold out of their whole first shipment of the (American pressing of the) album within an hour, so our advice is if you see it in a shop, grab it! Riot's shipment of the Massacre release of the album (which incidentally features a bonus disc!) is almost in the stores, so keep an eye out in JB and other stores.

Lastly, if you get to read this before Thursday night (16th Dec), tune into Odin's Jukebox on 88.6 MHz (Plenty Valley FM) between 10.30 pm and 12.30 am for an interview with Danny and Sam. For those not local enough to catch it, they'll probably stick an MP3 of it online, so keep checking their site (or we'll let you know when it's up).

Many thanks for your support once again! (And don't forget to mark your calendar!).

In Australia, it's being distributed by RIOT, so should be available pretty much everywhere.

Hey guys

As you can see, we've updated the site to reflect the artwork of "9 Elements Of Inner Vision". More and more bands are revamping their sites with each new album, yet we don't really feel like we're jumping on the band wagon or anything, considering the site has looked basically the same for years now. Many thanks to Claus from Intromental for his encouragement and ideas (not to mention that cool "9 Elements..." cover collage on the welcome screen after the opening page!), and to OzzyFrank for his hard work in making it come together. We've already had some great comments on the artwork and overall look, so we hope you like the new-look site too!

Stay tuned for new on the official release date of the album coming shortly. For now, check out the link below for a sample if you haven't already done so.

As you can imagine, we are truly over the moon about this! And even more so, considering how happy they are with the album, and how confident they are that it will turn many heads once released.

And yes - the album isn't too far away. At the moment, it is looking like late October will be the release date for "9 Elements Of Inner Vision", but more on that in the coming weeks. Hi there all

Well, Con is back from Sweden, where he mixed and mastered the album with Andy LaRocque. The lucky bugger had a great time, as he got to hang out with one of his metal idols, and also got to meet original King Diamond drummer Mikkey Dee (currently Motorhead/Helloween). He also got to meet guys from Evergrey and Hammerfall (Oscar sent a hello to Danny, whom he remembered from Wacken), cover artist Mattias, and Claus and Lars from Intromental (who made their way up from Denmark for the occasion).

Unfortunately, Con forgot to take a camera, but here are a couple of pics: the first is Con with Andy LaRocque, and the second is (from left) Lars, Con, Claus, and Mattias.

Anyway, the mixing went great, and even unmastered the album sounds excellent (which is why we chose Andy in the first place!). Now, with the overall tone of the album set, it sounds unbelievable! So check back soon, as we'll be bringing you news of a record deal very shortly!!

Thanks for your support.

EYEFEAR

Friday 9th April, 2004

Hey there everyone

We have some great news concerning the mixing of the album. Con will be flying out to Sweden this Saturday to do the mixing with Andy La Rocque! He'll leave on Saturday afternoon and arrive in Gothenburg on Easter Sunday morning (their time), where he'll be picked up by Andy (who is giving up a family Easter holiday to do this!). He'll then have a day's rest to recover from any jet-lag before getting stuck into a week of mixing. Claus from Intromental should also be making his way up from Denmark, so Con will finally meet the man behind our European promotion. Con will be leaving for home on the 19th, which means the album will be finished!

So stay tuned for more info on this when he gets back, and for news of a record deal (which shouldn't be too far away!).

Also, in case you had troubles accessing this site a few weeks back, our host seems to have disappeared, so now we're being hosted on ozzyfrank.com. This should address any performance issues previously encountered accessing our site.

Greetings!

And many, many thanks to all those who came out to support us last Friday night! I'm sure you will agree: it was a HUGE night! (With nearly 350 people there, how could one argue??). We even had our old friend Jimmy Georgopoulos join us for two songs: "Where Clouds Divide" and "Dawn (A New Beginning)". Con got up to play keyboards with Black Majesty on three songs, with Danny joining in on "Guardian". So not only was the night a treat for the fans, but for all of us as well.

And those of you who were there were also the first to hear our rather excellent news: that our album is going to be mixed in Sweden... by none other than King Diamond legend and producer-extraordinaire: Andy La Rocque!!! Yep, he loved what he heard, so is gladly taking on this task - which is quite OK with us!

So, once again, thanks for your support, and check back for updates soon (or just join the mailing list!). For pics of the night, click here, and also check out the Breakers Metal site for the review and even more photos.

Thursday 12th February, 2004

Hi there all

Boy, have we got some news for you! While we are still going to wait a week or so before announcing the producer of "9 Elements Of Inner Vision", these two bits of news should tide you over till then...

First off, we are pleased to announce that we have signed a worldwide management deal with Intromental Management in Europe! The purpose of this partnership is not only to help find us a record deal worthy of this album, but also promote the band and help push us into the world arena. This company is one of the best in the business, so we are really pleased that they'll be working with us.

For more info on Intromental, click the banner below to check out their site, or click here to check out their EYEFEAR page.

The next bit of exciting news is that Mattias Norén will be doing the CD cover-art/booklet! For those of you not familiar with the name, he is the artist responsible for many of the awesome covers/booklets on releases from bands like Evergrey, Andromeda, Derek Sherinian, Chrome Shift, Hemisphere, Lost Horizon, and the latest Ayreon release. As you can imagine, we are really thrilled with this, as whatever direction the artwork will take, it will surely be a feast for the eyes!

If you want to see what this truly talented man is capable of, check out some of his wicked artwork at www.progart.com. You'll find all the cover-art he's done there, as well as a heap of his own art.

So stay tuned for more news coming shortly... and don't forget the killer gig coming up with Black Majesty at Breakers Metal coming on Friday 27th February. Catch you down there!

Hey everyone

We trust you had a safe and fun holiday break!

Over the last couple of months, we finished recording the album - and now we're talking with a couple of big-name producers in Europe to do the mixing for us! We are really excited about this prospect, as well as the attention the promo has been receiving over there. Responses from record labels have been awesome, so hopefully we'll have news on who we're signing with in about 4-6 weeks.

The other great news is that we'll be playing a special gig with Black Majesty at Breakers Metal on Friday 27th February! This promises to be a great night, so make sure you don't miss out on this one!

Hey guys!

A massive THANKS to all of you who made it to Breakers Metal last Friday night - it was a HUGE night, with over 200 people in attendance! This show of support was even more impressive since it was the night before the Grand Final! There were a few who hadn't heard us and were eager to check us out; judging from the response we got from these people (including guys from other bands), it seems we have expanded our fan-base somewhat. People loved our sound, which was nice and chunky on the night, and many are hanging for our album to be finished.

It seems all of you had a great time, and we certainly did! Sammy had a blast on his first gig with us, and from applause during and comments after, it seems you appreciate his talent. Danny spun a few newbies out with his voice, not that he doesn't still send shivers up the spine of those who have seen us heaps of times. So while we went up there to have a bunch of fun, it's good to know you enjoyed yourselves too, and the confidence boost you've given us is certainly welcome.

So many thanks for your support and overwhelming response, and for making the gig a truly memorable one. Thanks also to Damnzal for being a great support, Babylon Ben for giving us a great sound, and of course our webmaster OzzyFrank for hassling the hell out of us to play there!

Sunday 7th September, 2003

Hi there all

Those of you on the mailing list would already know that just before Danny left for the U.K., he got an horrendous dose of that flu going around. Well, that was just the beginning of his U.K. drama!

As you probably know, besides Danny's hair promotion, the trip was also to promote EYEFEAR and any other Aussie band that answered the promo call-up. Well, upon arriving at Heathrow, he was detained for SIX HOURS as customs officials were sure he was bringing in illegal CDs to sell! Through a big mix up, there was no one there to verify his story... and it certainly didn't look good when the airline insisted there had been no Danny Cecati on their flight!!

Anyway, things eventually got sorted out (with the help of cousin Gio back here), and the albums and promos he had been holding onto were allowed to leave with him. They would have let him out earlier if he had left the CDs, but there was no way he was doing that!

Even though he felt like death warmed up, he didn't miss the BLOODSTOCK Festival, of which his highlights were seeing Masterplan and Nightwish. He got to go backstage and meet heaps of guys from bands and labels, etc, and of course gave out the promos/albums to appropriate people. There was not only a lot of interest in him and EYEFEAR, but the other local talent that made the effort to get their stuff over on this trip. Of course, Danny himself caused quite a stir; as you can imagine, his hair totally freaked out many European metalheads!

He had a really great time at BLOODSTOCK, and counts it as one of the most memorable events in his life. Though photo-shoots at Stonehenge and some castles had to be cancelled, he did have a great shoot at the ruins of an old Nuns' convent, so they got plenty of cool shots (and luckily he looked a lot better than he felt). And as things turned out, Danny would have missed Ozzy Osbourne in the last days of his trip anyway, as he cancelled his tour.

Danny returned in the wee hours of Tuesday 2nd September, about a week earlier than planned. Now he's concentrating on getting back in form for our next gig, which will also be the first gig featuring Sammy and the last one before the CD launch:

Wednesday 6th August, 2003

Greetings!

Well guys, we have to say we couldn't be more pleased with the way things are turning out for us! First came the realisation (after stepping into the studio with Endel) that this album is going to be pretty special indeed; next Danny gets an invite to the UK, with people eager to hear some tracks off the forth-coming album...

Now, we have really added a whole new dimension to our music with the inclusion of Sammy in the band! And it couldn't have come at a better time, as we are doing the final mixing for the 3 tracks that are going to the UK/Europe next Tuesday and Wednesday.

We actually already had all the keyboards laid out and even mixed... but luckily we got Sammy in before we were committed to keeping what we had, as good as it was. Everybody who heard what we had thought it sounded great, but it was an easy decision to scrap all the work we had done on the original keys in favour of what Sammy has to offer.

Honestly guys - you wait till you hear Sammy go for it! He has been playing classical piano since he was seven, so it is in his blood. And we'll be announcing a gig for the not-too-distant future very soon, so you will get to see Sammy's magic in action! We're pretty sure you'll all blow away at how full Eyefear's sound is now!

Anyway, Sammy has been working like mad to make sure he is on the sampler going abroad, so things are looking even rosier regarding this rare promotional opportunity! The songs we'll have down by next Wednesday are:

Two Souls Apart
Dreams (with unbelievable vocal arrangements featuring Gio of Black Majesty!)
The Script Of Sorrowed Tales

We are going to arrange for a few samples to go up as soon as we can, so you will hear just how good this album is going to be! We are extremely proud of what we are achieving, and we know you'll be proud of us too when you hear the end result!

Many thanks for all your support, guys - and stay tuned for the next update, which will be soon.

PS: You guys in bands - hurry up and get your promos to OzzyFrank!

EYEFEAR

Saturday 12th July, 2003

Hey everyone!

Boy have we got some news for you! And if you're in a band, please keep reading, as this concerns you too!

Well, it seems somebody has noticed our singer,
Danny, has a head of hair to be reckoned with, along with his killer voice. A while back, Danny was contacted by the folks at Astroworld in the UK, as they were mightily impressed with not just his hair, but his vocal ability on Black Majesty's "Guardian". He further impressed them with his friendly and cooperative attitude, and they immediately offered him an all-expenses-paid trip to England to get some pictures taken for their project, which deals with the lifestyles of the long-haired.

But not only has
Danny been asked to star in this "Long Hair Project", which will see him photographed at places like Stonehenge and with bands at the Bloodstock Festival, but he has been asked to be an ambassador of sorts for the Melbourne (and Australian) Metal scene! And, of course, they are extremely interested to hear some of the upcoming Eyefear album, so we are making sure we have three songs finished by then.

Danny will be flying out at the end of August, and will have a day to get over jet-lag before the fun begins. On Friday 29th and Saturday 30th August, Danny will be flashing his VIP pass around at the Bloodstock Festival in Derby, where he will be snapped with some of the bands (and having the time of his life in between!).

On Sunday 31st,
Danny will get to chill to some Shakespeare at the historic (if rebuilt) Globe Theatre, and between Monday 1st and Thursday 4th September will be taking in more culture and history during visits/photo-shoots at Stonehenge and various castles.

On Friday 5th September,
Danny will get to see Ozzy Osbourne in London, and is of course hoping to get to meet him backstage! (Are you turning green yet?). The following day involves a trip to Keithley to see Bloodstream, with Sunday 7th September being the last "chill out" day before the big flight back.

Obviously, we are excited for
Danny and extremely pleased that we have a head-start on pushing the album, but you guys out there in bands have a chance to make this trip beneficial for yourselves as well. John Beeson from Astroworld actually flew out and saw our last gig at the HiFi Bar, and he was very impressed by the calibre of our bands here. Therefore, we are sending out the call for your albums, EPs or promos, with the intention of passing them along to people who will give them some serious attention. This could mean a record deal... or an offer of a tour... or an invite to be the touring support to some big metal act when they come over. Who knows? We can't guarantee you anything more than saving you the postage, but since John is quite keen to pass them along to his contacts (which are considerable), it could be the break you are waiting for.

So if you want to
pass along a promo-pack, please contact OzzyFrank for more information, since he will be handling them. Remember, you only have till mid-late August, so don't leave it till the last moment!

So, in conclusion, a big thanks goes out to
Joanna Fisher and John Beeson of Astroworld. Without them, Danny (and Eyefear as a whole) would never have had such a lucky break! And it goes without saying: thanks to all of you, without whom we would be nothing!

Take care (and get your CDs in, you guys!).

We would like to introduce to you our newest member in the EYEFEAR family: keyboardist Sammy Giaccotto. While it was unfortunate that Gary decided to leave recently, things have turned out for the best, as we were lucky enough to find Sam! This multi-talented musician is 25 years old, and started playing classical piano at the age of 7! He also studied sound production at RMIT, and produces music from his own home studio. He was in an industrial rock band called Ocean about 3 years ago, but since then has been honing his skills and waiting for the right band to come along!

We'd like to thank all of you for rocking up and supporting us, as the HiFi Bar is no small venue and can look pretty empty - but, thanks to you, it certainly didn't look that way.

If you are wondering what the hell happened to this page, lets just say thanks to GODADDY.com for sorting out the domain registration of EYEFEAR.com.

As for news, here we go. We are well into recording, drums are complete and the whole foundation of every track, let's say, has been laid. Rob will be going in next to lay down all his bass work within the next couple of weeks. We hope to have the new CD (yet untitled) out around Dec / Jan.

The track listing is as follows :

Two Souls Apart, Dreams, Kingdom, The Script Of Sorrow Tales, Where Clouds Divide, Illumination Fades, Altered Visions ( Dreams Part 2), Beyond The Twilight, plus a bonus track.

We were planning to have a small break from the live seen due to recording but we will be announcing a couple of very big shows in the coming weeks. So stay tuned !!!!

Best Regards

EYEFEAR
